Wholesale Inventories Up 2.5 Percent in February from January 2022

Monthly Wholesale sales, inventories, and inventories-to-sales ratios were revised based on the results of the 2020 Annual Wholesale Trade Survey. Revised not adjusted and corresponding adjusted estimates were released on our website on March 24, 2022.

February 2022 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $675.8 billion, up 1.7% (±0.4%) from the revised January level and were up 25.5% (±1.1%) from the revised February 2021 level. The December 2021 to January 2022 percent change was revised from the Monthly Wholesale Annual Revision Report of up 4.4% (±0.5%) to up 5.0% (±0.5%).

Inventories
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were $818.2 billion at the end of February, up 2.5% (±0.2%) from the revised January level. Total inventories were up 19.9% (±1.2%) from the revised February 2021 level. The January 2022 to February 2022 percent change was revised from the advance estimate of up 2.1% (±0.2%) to up 2.5% (±0.2%).
