The unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in October 2019, little changed from the rate in September. Unemployment rates showed little or no change in October for Whites (3.2 percent), Blacks or African Americans (5.4 percent), Asians (2.9 percent), and Hispanics or Latinos (4.1 percent).
The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 1.3 million in Oct. and accounted for 21.5 percent of the unemployed. Since the most recent peak in Apr. 2010, the number of long-term unemployed has fallen by 5.5 million. The long-term unemployed accounted for 45.5 percent of all unemployed people in Apr. 2010.
