SAF-HOLLAND Breaks Ground on New Piedras Negras Mexico Plant

SAF-HOLLAND, a leading global manufacturer of heavy-duty commercial vehicle components, is pleased to announce that its groundbreaking for its new manufacturing plant in Piedras Negras, located in Coahuila, Mexico, was held March 8.

The new facility in Mexico will produce products for the U.S. and Mexico markets, with the manufacturing focus on HOLLAND fifth wheels, the world’s most popular and versatile line of cast-steel fifth wheels available. With millions produced to date, the proven and long-life performance of HOLLAND fifth wheels cover standard, moderate, heavy and severe-duty applications.

Joining the SAF-HOLLAND executive management team for the ground-breaking ceremony was the Mayor of Piedras Negras, leaders of the local economic development council, and representatives of the AMISTAD company, a full service Industrial Real Estate, construction services company in Mexico and Texas.

Its construction is part of the overall ongoing efforts to increase capacity output from the SAF-HOLLAND North American plant manufacturing network. The first phase will employ 150 people. The over 158,000-square-foot facility opens August 2023, and is located on more than 9.25 acres of land.

SAF-HOLLAND production capabilities will include state-of-the-art robotic welding equipment to manufacture its wide range of fifth wheel model offerings including stationary, sliding and top plate assemblies.

“This investment allows us to better meet customer demand, delivering our fifth wheels more quickly to tractor manufacturers, dealers and customers,” said Kent Jones, president – Americas for SAF-HOLLAND. “The additional manufacturing space not only enables us to serve our customers better but provides for future growth.”
