Job openings edged down to 8.8 million in July 2023. This was the first month job openings were below 9.0 million since March 2021 when the figure was 8.4 million.
From June 2023 to July 2023, job openings decreased by more than 100,000 in professional and business services (−198,000), health care and social assistance (−130,000), and state and local government (−128,000). Job openings increased by more than 100,000 in information (101,000).
In July 2023, there were 0.7 unemployed persons for each job opening.
