Employment up 2,443,000 Over the Year Ending November 2018

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 155,000 in November 2018. Over the November 2017 to November 2018 period, employment increased by 2,443,000, or 1.7%.

Employment in professional and business services increased 561,000 over the year ended November 2018, an increase of 2.7 percent.

Education and health services employment increased 473,000, or 2.0 percent, over the past year. Health care added 328,000 jobs over this 12-month period.

Employment in trade, transportation, and utilities was up 307,000, or 1.1 percent. Over the year, transportation and warehousing added 192,000 jobs.

Manufacturing employment increased by 288,000, or 2.3 percent, over the year.

The over-the-year employment increase in mining and logging was 53,000, or 7.6 percent—the largest percentage change among the major industries. Construction employment increased 282,000, or 4.0 percent.

Information and state government experienced decreases in employment from November 2017 to November 2018.
