U.S.-NAFTA Freight Movement Down Due to Mineral Fuel Price Reductions

The value of U.S.-NAFTA freight totaled $93.0 billion in July 2015 as all modes except air carried less freight than in July 2014, according to the TransBorder Freight Data released today by theU.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) (Figure 1, Table 1). Year-over-year, the value of U.S.-NAFTA freight flows by all modes decreased by 8.0 percent. Large decreases in the value of commodities moved by pipeline and vessel in July were due to the reduced unit price of mineral fuel.

New product development is a never-ending cycle, and at times, a manufacturer needs to look outside its realm of expertise to find the solution. That was the case in the collaboration and creation of the FT-14 I Vac trailer. A need arose for a transport unit for a manufacturer of Vacuum Excavation Unit Systems that did not have such a product in its offerings. The brand dealer contacted its Felling Trailers’ Sales Rep. to assist in filling this void, as Felling is noted in the trailer industry for its expert ability to create customized configurations for such needs. The brand manufacturer had the Vac System components but did not have a model available with the transport configuration its customers wanted.

LGE Design Build Breaks Ground on 60,000 Sq. Ft. Utility Trailer Arizona Headquarters

LGE Design Build recently broke ground on Utility Trailer’s 60,000-square-foot Arizona headquarters at the Rados Tolleson Center. Utility Trailer and its 50 employees have outgrown their current facility in Phoenix, near 22nd Ave. and McDowell Rd., where the family-owned business has been located since 1953. The company’s new Arizona headquarters, located on 14 acres at 83rd Avenue and I-10 in Tolleson, will double its facility size and be closer to the distribution corridor in the Southwest Valley. Target completion is first quarter 2016. Utility Trailer expects to hire more technicians and sales associates.

July 2015 Freight Shipment Index Near All-time High

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.6% in July from June, rising after a single month of decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). The July 2015 index level (122.8) was 29.7% above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

Aero raised $10,600 for Folds of Honor, an organization that provides “annual educational scholarships to the military families of those who have been killed or disabled while on active duty,” according to their mission statement. Aero’s donation will aid in the effort to support the nine out of ten veterans that do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance, according to the Folds of Honor Web site.
