BTS Releases State Transportation by the Numbers Profiles

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has released the State Transportation by the Numbers Profiles 2014 – two-page collections of transportation information for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The profiles include information on infrastructure, safety, freight transportation, passenger travel, registered vehicles and vehicle-miles traveled, economy and finance, and energy and environment. The profiles present highlights of more detailed tables found in BTS’ State Transportation Statistics. U.S.-NAFTA Freight Up 5.4%; Totaled $95.8 Billion in December 2014

U.S.-NAFTA freight totaled $95.8 billion in December 2014 as four out of five transportation modes – truck, rail, air, and pipeline – carried more U.S.-NAFTA freight than in December 2013, according to data released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). Year-over-year, the value of U.S.-NAFTA freight flows by all modes increased by 5.4 percent, with December marking the 11thconsecutive month of year-over-year increases.

Freight Remains Steady in December Compared to November; Up 30.9% from 2009

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, was virtually unchanged in December from November, failing to rise after five consecutive months of increases, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). The December 2014 index level (123.8) was 30.9 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).
