Proposed EPA Regulations Include 2018 Model Year Semi-Tractors, Trailers

Proposed rules from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stand to impact heavy-duty engines and tractors; heavy-duty vocational vehicles, semi-tractors; and heavy-duty pickups and vans in 2018 and beyond. In 2011, the EPA and NHTSA finalized a Phase 1 fuel consumption rule for manufacturers in the aforementioned sectors. However, trailers were not included in Phase 1. Proposed regulations would include trailers.

By Dave Wiggins, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP As we approach a new year, the final days of 2014 are the perfect time to take an overall look at your dealership to plan for year-end and the year ahead. To date, Congress has not enacted any tax law changes for the 2014 tax year. Many tax professionals, including us, expect Congress to pass some tax legislation either at or after year-end. We expect some of the changes will be retroactive to January 1, 2014. We believe the 2014 tax provisions will increase the Section 179 or bonus depreciation limits discussed below and also reinstate some expired tax provisions that have been reinstated annually.

Newly Clarified Tax Update May Be Advantageous for Dealers
