National Transportation Statistics Updated

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has updated National Transportation Statistics (NTS) – a Web-only reference guide to national-level transportation data. NTS, updated quarterly, includes a wide range of national transportation information. NTS consists of more than 260 tables of national data on the transportation system, safety, the economy and energy and the environment, of which 53 were updated . The next quarterly update is scheduled for April 2016. NTS contents are available on the BTS Web site. For more information, contact Dave Smallen at (202) 366-5568.

DOT: Proposed Speed Limiter Mandate, Rule on Driver Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse Expected in February

The Department of Transportation, in its monthly regulatory update, gave its first update since November on a rulemaking to require speed limiters on heavy trucks, now projecting the rule to be published next month. Freight Shipments Fell 1% in November According to BTS

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 1.0 percent in November from October, falling after a one-month rise, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). The November 2015 index level (122.3) was 29.1 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).
