November 2012 U.S. Surface Transportation Trade with Canada and Mexico Totaled $81.5 Billion

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, rose 6.2 percent in November 2012 compared to November 2011, totaling $81.5 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Adjusted for inflation and exchange rates and presented in January 2004 dollars, the November 2012 total was $59.5 billion, up 7.6 percent from November 201.

IRS Updates Tangible Property Regulations

On November 20, 2012, the IRS updated the temporary regulations guiding taxpayers on how to treat expenses related to the acquisition, renovation, or improvement of tangible property. Notice 2012-73 indicates permanent rules should be expected in 2013, with an effective date of January 1, 2014.

Pressure Systems International Expands Employment to Meet Increased Customer Demand

During 2012 Pressure Systems International, the manufacturer of the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by PSI, increased permanent employment at their San Antonio facility by 23%, following a 21% increase in 2011. The continued expansion of the P.S.I. workforce reflects year to year record sales of P.S.I.’s automatic tire inflation system both for domestic consumption through their partnership with Meritor as well as growing worldwide sales.
